13 years of painting awaits on the Øresund Bridge. The steel construction at the 8 km long bridge needs surface treatment, and the work needs to be performed on a customized platform. The first brushstrokes were set in January by Muehlhan to test the conditions and to optimize the processes.
The customized platform hangs 20-30 meters above the sea and the surface treatment must be done without any inconvenience for trains or cars.
When the painting is done in one area of the bridge, the platform must be moved to the next position, and this is where the challenges are. The relocation of the platform must be optimized and automated, and still having the employees’ safety as first priority.
“It’s a really exciting task for our Engineering department. We are a technically strong team when dealing with process optimizations. We look forward to developing an automated solution to create shorter transport time of the platform and more time for painting,” says Kim Stenager, Director at Blaaholm Industry.
